Plastic Bags

Effective June 1, 2009, in accordance to the City of Toronto by-law, Kitchen Stuff Plus will be required to charge customers 5¢ plus tax for each plastic bag used at the time of purchase. This policy has been adopted at all Kitchen Stuff Plus locations inside the City of Toronto.

Why are you charging me for plastic bags?

The City of Toronto has introduced a new by-law to discourage the use of plastic bags and subsequently stop them from ending up in landfills.

What are you doing with the 5¢ you collect from the sales?

The proceeds from the sale of these plastic bags will go towards our initiatives to make our company more sustainable and reduce our carbon footprint on the environment.

So far, we have spent the proceeds from plastic bag sales on:
  • Outfitting stores with energy efficient lights.
  • Cardboard (packaging) and paper recycling programs in all of our stores.
  • Installing timers on our outdoor signs, turning off interior lights after close, and updating our computer monitors to LCD.

Are discounts allowed on the purchase of a plastic bag?

Plastic bags are not discountable and the purchase amount will not be affected with the use of a coupon or rebate.

I’m returning my purchase for a refund. Will you also refund the cost of my bag?

If you return the bag with the merchandise you are returning, we will gladly process the 5¢ refund.
